Hi, I’m Fiona.
I’m British, and have recently returned to the UK, having spent the last thirteen years in Vancouver, Canada. I’ve lived in various countries, including Spain, France, Dubai and Canada. I now live in the New Forest, a beautiful part of England.
I have several hobbies, including skiing and mountain biking. I also enjoy learning and speaking new languages. I did my degree (BA) in French and German and then went to Spain to teach English, where I quickly picked up Spanish. I think this love of languages really helps me to teach my own.
I have been teaching English for twenty years, and I am truly passionate about my job. I have taught at various reputable language schools, including the British Council in Dubai, and Global Village in Vancouver. I have a lot of experience teaching one-to-one, and have recently moved exclusively to online teaching. It’s so much fun meeting students from all over the world, and it’s amazing how real a virtual class seems, and how much you can do from a laptop!
I’m well-qualified to teach English. As well as the CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults), I now have the Delta Diploma, which is basically the equivalent to a Masters in teaching. In fact I obtained a Distinction (the highest grade) in all three modules. (Click here to see my certificates). This sets me apart from many other ESL teachers, who have the CELTA. It has also given me a huge insight into teaching and how to help my students get results.
I have fifteen years experience teaching IELTS and have a deep understanding of what it takes to succeed in this exam. I also have plenty of experience teaching Cambridge exams, including FCE, CAE, CPE and BEC exams. It’s hard work, but hugely rewarding to help students achieve their goals and potentially to change their lives.
My passion for teaching Business English comes from my own experience in business. I spent seven years as a Sales executive at Bloomberg Financial Markets in London. This has helped me to really understand the needs of my business students and to create courses designed to meet their needs.
